Frequently Asked Questions

What is a functional capacity assessment used for?

A functional capacity assessment is used to evaluate how a person’s disability impacts their ability to complete everyday tasks. The resulting occupational therapy report can be used to support NDIS access, plan reviews, requests for increased supports, or to justify funding for assistive technology, home modifications, and support workers.

How long does the assessment process take?

The entire process—from the initial consultation to the delivery of the final report—typically takes a few weeks. This includes interviews, assessments, report writing, and internal review. If you have a time-sensitive request (e.g. plan review due date), let us know and we’ll do our best to prioritise your case.

What information do I need to provide for the assessment?

We’ll ask you (or your support person) to share background information such as medical history, current supports, goals, and any existing reports or documentation. During the assessment, we’ll also ask about your daily routines, challenges, and what kind of supports you may need.

Can you assess children and teenagers?

Yes, we provide functional capacity assessments for children, teenagers, and adults. Our occupational therapists are experienced in working with participants of all ages and can tailor the assessment to suit developmental stages and communication styles.

Is the assessment available Australia-wide?

Yes, our assessments are available across Australia through secure telehealth. In-person assessments may also be offered in select areas. Telehealth is a convenient and effective way to complete assessments while still meeting NDIS requirements.

Do I need to be an NDIS participant to book an assessment?

No. We also work with individuals who are applying for the NDIS and need a functional assessment report to support their access request. If you’re not yet an NDIS participant, we can help you prepare the necessary documentation.

Will my support coordinator or plan manager receive a copy of the report?

Yes, with your consent, we can share the completed report with your support coordinator, plan manager, or any other relevant members of your support team to ensure everyone is aligned on your goals and needs.

What qualifications do your assessors have?

All assessments are completed by qualified occupational therapists registered with AHPRA and experienced in NDIS report writing. Our team stays up to date with NDIA guidelines to ensure your report meets current standards.

What if English isn’t my first language?

We’re happy to support participants from diverse backgrounds. If needed, we can organise interpreters or use accessible communication tools to ensure the assessment process is clear and comfortable for you.

Can this report be used to request funding for assistive technology?

Yes. Our assessments include specific recommendations for assistive technology (AT), including supporting evidence and justifications that align with NDIS funding guidelines.
